While attending the AUB, Acra was discovered by a fashion editor captivated by the embroidered silk gown Acra made from her mother’s dining room table cloth and wore to a party, she instantly offered to host a fashion show for Acra that took place 10 days later. Following the serendipitous encounter, Acra conducted her Fashion designer studies.
After her studies and practical design experience, she returned to New York where her atelier quickly gained international recognition. Her collections are carried in more than 100 of the most exclusive retailers in the world including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as her flagship Manhattan boutique.
Reem Acra launched her own bridal gown company in 1995 and has shot to the top in the bridal business. Acra’s gowns are a direct reflection of her design philosophy that poetically combines her appreciation for the traditional and classic with the modern fashion needs of today’s stylish woman.

So much it’s even hard to describe; it’s like air to me.

• The craziest thing you have ever done in your life?
I moved to New York City all by myself to attend FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology)
without knowing anyone here, without knowing NYC.
• One thing you absolutely despite? Dishonesty
• What do you still hold from your childhood? Your father? Mother?
My mother’s sense of style. From my father, I received an analytical mind.
• What is the main reason of your success?
It’s a combination of talent, perseverance and confidence in my point of view.
• What cause will you always fight for? Women’s and children’s rights
• If it was up to you, what will you achieve regarding women’s and children rights in the
Middle East? Equality of services and resources.
